Role: Product design / Concept, Interaction, Implementation Details: Team of 4 | May 2019
Together with Google Amsterdam, I have worked to develop a concept which increase adoption of Google Assistant for Dutch seniors over 65 years old. I simplified the challenge by providing assistance for seniors who get injured when they are alone.
Audience & Challenge
I started an initial secondary research about the target group generation, the “Baby Boomers”. The research phase continued by doing an interview panel with two seniors where we asked questions individually to identify the pain points. After that, I conducted short rating questionnaires on three subjects: health, safety and social connectivity. When we finished, we’ve searched for patterns. This helped in simplifying the challenge by focusing providing assistance to sensors who get injured when they are alone.
Research & insights
Ideation phase started individually by brainstorming using the method of “Crazy 8”, keeping in mind the existing technology of Google products. After that, we created groups of two and we have given feedback, critics and suggestions of improvements for each other’s ideas. We’ve came together in the group of four and we have presented our best idea by creating a storyboard. After that, we have decided on one idea by voting.
- Add-on feature that identifies your injury, provide treatment, and connect you with a doctor (Chosen concept)
- Mirror that scans the body every day to prevent future diseases
- Autonomous emergency car triggered by voice and location
The solution – AheRo
The add-on feature for the existing Google Assistant that allows Google Home (smart speaker) to identify your injury by voice triggers and provide an emergency treatment advice, followed by connecting the senior with a doctor, nurse of the closest pharmacy.
The idea could be implemented in the short-term, which brought a significant advantage. More than this, the concept could be implemented as an updated feature for the existing assistant, which could be turned on and off by the user. The concept had limitations that it would only recognise some injuries, giving an alternative solution: doctor appointment or temporary treatment advice.
